The Office of the Dean of the College has just released the latest update to its custom electronic advising tool ASK. First released in 2009, ASK (short for “Advising SideKick”) belongs to a suite of tools designed by the College to enhance students’ experience of the open curriculum. The new public homepage for ASK includes announcements, electronic copies of handbooks and planning guides, web links, and important campus phone numbers. Logging in, students and advisers will have access to personal information, including internal academic records, and names and emails of advising partners. ASK stores letters written by students to their first-year adviser, essays written to defend the choice of concentration, and other examples of significant work. “I’m thrilled with this version of ASK, which is part of our ongoing project to strengthen advising across all four years. The new release not only gives students ready access to their academic record but also provides even more opportunities for reflection on major milestones of their academic career,” said Katherine Bergeron, dean of the College. The Office of the Dean of the College has other future improvements in the works, including a writing portfolio, a concentration portfolio, where students will be able to mark milestones in their concentration, and a database for exploring career and internship opportunities.
