Wendell Fleming, professor emeritus of applied mathematics, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in recognition of his distinguished achievements in original research. The National Academy of Sciences is a private, nonprofit society of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific and engineering research, dedicated to the furtherance of science and technology and to their use for the public good. In addition to Fleming, Brown currently has eight faculty who are members of NAS. Eighty-four new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries were announced Tuesday, May 1, 2012, by NAS.
